Survivors of the Fifty-Third Kentucky Regiment, Civil War Veterans, met at Fourth and York sts. Newport, Tuesday evening, in honor of the fiftieth anniversary of their mustering out by Gen U S Grant.

Newport member of the regiment include George Creighton, William Woodard, Charles Solar and Joseph Sproats.

Charles Solar, 82, Civil War veteran, died late Monday at his home, 712 Overton st. Newport. Solar was widely known in Campbell co. having been a lifelong resident. He formerly was a letter carrier and before that had been a member of the Newport Fire Department. He was the only surviving member of the William Nelson Post No 1 GAR.

He was a past commander of the GAR in Newport, a member of the Robert Burns Lodge No 163 F&AM; the Royal Arch Masons, Jeffries Council of Masons an Newport Commandery No 13, Knights Templar. Solar is survived only by a grandson, E Runnels Solar of Ft Thomas. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:30 pm at the home, in charge of the Robert Burns Lodge of Masons. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Members of Robert Burns Lodge will assemble Thursday at 1 pm at the Masonic Temple, Newport and go to Solar's home in a body. Charles A Smith Sons, Newport undertakers are in charge of the funeral.

Will of Charles A Solar, Overton st. Newport, Civil War veteran, was filed for probate Tuesday with Judge Conrad G Metz of Campbell co. Court. The will stipulates $200 is to go to Myrtle Pryor; $700 to Dr. William A Krieger and $150 to Aubrey Barbour for their service and friendship.

The residue of the estate is left to grandchild, Edward Reynolds Solar. The Central Savings Bank & Trust Co is named executor.
