NEWPORT

The Police and Fire Commissioners met last night. Mr. Charles A Klein, the new member, was present and was sworn in . Rules for the government of their own body and of those of the Police and Fire Departments were considered and were adopted and those concerning the departments were laid over for further consideration.

Each member of the Police and Fire Departments is to be elected for two years. As the time of appointments as laid down in the charter occurs in December, the present members were upon motion of Mr. Johnston, elected until next December.  Each member will be required to give bond, but as the firemen are now under bond of $2000 each, that will be sufficient for the present term, and the police are required to give bond in the sum of $1000 each.
