Charles Joseph Cronin

Kentucky Post, Wednesday, 17 August 1938, page 2

Because the World War is most recent in the public memory, the public oft times forgets the Spanish American War. Col. Charles Cronin, Newport war veteran, recently called Kentucky's attention to the Spanish conflict. In a sweeping invitation he asked all veterans of the Sixth Infantry of Ft Thomas to join with other Spanish War veterans in a reunion in Columbus O. on Aug 26. The meeting is being held in connection with the national convention of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Many of the Sixth Infantry served in either Cuba or the Philippines. Many of our younger citizens have allowed the signifiance of the Spanish War to escape them. The United States entered the battle as an adolescent power, scarcely at home in its long pants When the fight was over our nation was a world power. We had attained manhood in the brotherhood of nations.
