For Mayor: C P Buchanan
For City Marshall: Thomas Fowler

Chris Albers and Louis Helm, charged with committing a breach of the peace, under went an examination before Mayor Buchanan yesterday. The former was fined $30 and costs and sentenced to ten days confinement in the City Jail. Helm got off with a fine of $10.

Lewis Thornton appeared before Mayor Buchanan on Saturday and asked to have a warrant issued for the arrest of George W Lash, stating that he had reasonable grounds for believing said Lash had committed the crime of adultery with his, Thornton's wife.

Many persons are probably not aware that there is an ordinance for the punishment of person who many be guilty of trespassing n the grounds of the Newport Cemetery. Mayor Buchanan fined Mrs. Leikert $10 and costs for plucking flowers in the lot of Mrs. Clough at the cemetery.

A meeting of citizens was held at the Court house on Saturday night for the purpose of taking steps to build a first class hotel in Newport. Mayor C P Buchanan was elected chairman and X Sine Esq. City Clerk, was called upon to act as secretary. Mayor Buchanan briefly explained the object of the meeting.

We understand the attorneys for Gooding, Wilson and Helm, who were committed on Thursday last to jail by Enquires Buchanan and Maphet, upon the charge of murdering Michael Murray, will make application today to Judge Berry for a writ of habeas corpus. Their object is to have the prisoners admitted to bail.
