FATHER OF FORMER MAYOR
Charles Biltz, 78, father of former Mayor Edward C Biltz, of
Newport, died of old age Friday shortly before 8 o'clock am at his residence, 28
W Eighth Street. he was born in 1825 in Neunkirche, Prussia, Germany and came to
this country with his parents at the age of 8 years. They settled in
Pennsylvania and at the age of 15 years he learned the trade of blacksmithing.
In 1848 he located in Newport, where he lived up to the time of his death.
He was one of the founding members of the German Salem M E Church and was married twice. His first wife was Miss Elizabeth Feel and following her death he married Miss Elizabeth Fuss. Of nine children born to him the only one surviving is the former Mayor. His funeral will take place Sunday afternoon from Salem M E Church at 2 o'clock.
