The Central Christian Church congregation of Newport, Ky. was organized in October 1895. Since that time religious services have been held in a hall at the southeast corner of Sixth and Washington Avenue. Rev J M Bailey has occupied the pulpit since February 1896. On Saturday, July 1, a lot 42 by 115 feet on the northeast corner of Sixth and Monroe Streets was purchased from Joseph G Feth for $2800. The plans for the building contemplate a pressed brick structure. The auditorium will be 40 by 48 feet and the Sunday School room which is to be separated by folding doors, 28 by 30 feet. The whole seating capacity when thrown open will be about $500. The foundation for the brick work will be built this fall and the main building deferred until spring of 1897 owing to the lateness of the season.
The total cost of the building, not including the furnishings will be about $5500. The furnishing cost about $1000, making the total $9000. The organization is incorporated under the laws of Kentucky as the Central Christian Church, with Paris C Brown, William H Gayle, Joseph H Smith, J C Demoss, William H Horton, N W Austin, E P Dameron, William F Owens, J T Hopkins, W S Tingley and W L Glazier as incorporators. The building committee consists of W H Horton, N W Austin, P C Brown, W L Glazier and Rev J M Bailey.
The plans and specifications were prepared by a Newport architect, Mr. Chris Weber, who is at present with the firm of Des Jardins & Hayward of Cincinnati. The edifice when complete will be a handsome structure.

Twelve members of the Dayton and Bellevue Christian Church
transferred their membership to the Central Christian Church of Newport, Sunday.
The members had been attending the Newport Church for several months and their
recent action is the logical outcome of a serious split in the church, the
details of which have been published.

Rev J A Erwin, pastor of the Central Christian Church, of Newport Ky. last night preached his second sermon on the atonement, taking issue with Rev Mr. Johnston of the Newport Congregational Church, whose views recently appeared in an afternoon paper. Mr. Erwin took for his text Romans III, 23-25: "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God: being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Jesus Christ, whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in His blood."

A great crush at a church wedding in Newport Ky. Thursday night was not unexpected when it was known that the groom was only 6 and the bride no older. The ceremony was conducted at the Central Christian Church and all the ushers, bridemaids and so forth were from Newport's youngest set. Martha Holmes was the blushing bride and Donaldson Brown the groom.
After the ceremony there was a reception. About 40 children took part in the entertainment in one role or another. They presented a mock marriage.
