PROMINENT NEWPORT WOMAN
Mrs. John Devere, wife of the coal merchant and former
Superintendent of Public Works in Newport, died Sunday night at the home, 516
Central Avenue, Newport. She had been ill but a short time, one day and the sad
news will come as a shock to a host of friends.
Mrs. Devere was a devout Christian and many kind acts endeared her to many. A grown family of boys and girls, all well known survive her. Mrs. Devere was a sister-in-law of City Auditor of Albert Silva and sister of Miss Jennie Walsh, elocutionist and school teacher in Newport. The funeral arrangements will be given later.

FUNERAL
The funeral of Mrs. John Devere of Central Avenue, Newport, took place Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock from the Church of the Immaculate Conception Requiem mass was celebrated by Rev James McNerny and the Altar Society of which Mrs. Devere was a member attended in a body.
The church was crowded with friends and relatives of the deceased and many beautiful floral tributes covered the casket. The funeral was large and the burial was at St Stephen Cemetery in the Highlands.
