NEWPORT
Shortly after 10 pm last night, Mrs. W F McClure, aged 81, wife
of well known night manager of the Western Union Telegraph Company, Cincinnati,
died at the family home in Newport. Mrs. McClure was the daughter of the late
Alfred C Wood, a pioneer shoe merchant on Pearl street. She was for many years a
leading member of the Grace M E Church, Newport, and for along time was
superintendent of the jail work of the WCTC.
Regularly she visited the jail on Sundays to sing and pray with the prisoners. Mrs. McClure had been ill for many months, her ailment being nervous prostration. She leaves, besides her husband, several grown children.
