Captain W E Gleason

News has reached here that Capt. W E Gleason, Quartermaster of
the Sixth Infantry at Ft Leavenworth, Kansas, died at that place Jan 9 with
typhoid fever. Capt. Gleason was a Second Lieutenant when the Sixth was
stationed at Ft Thomas and was one of the most popular officers of the regiment.
He had seen considerable service in earning his Captaincy. He served through the
Spanish American War, participating in the attack on San Juan Hill and the siege
of Santiago.
He went with his regiment to the Philippines and was in a number of skirmished and battles there. The illness which resulted in the Captain's death was of 10 weeks duration.
