Sergeant Bruce Schabell, 25 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph C Schabell, Alexandria pike, Cold Spring florist, has been wounded in action. His parents have learned that he received a dislocated hip from a bomb concussion at the Anzio beachhead.
A graduate of Cold Spring High School and Miller's Business College, Cincinnati, he was employed by the American Railway Express co. before entering the service. His brother, Jack Schabell, 19, is serving in Alaska.

Sgt. Bruce Schabell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph C Schabell, Alexandria Pike, Cold Spring, was wounded in action in Italy, according to word received by his paretnts. Sgt. Schabell, 28, suffered a dislocated hip in battle on the Anzio beachhead. He is recuperating in a base hospital in Italy. Sgt. Schabell, who was named on the All Northern Kentucky Athletic Conference basketball team in 1938, played center position on the Cold Spring High School team.
Schabell has been overseas 22 months. After training at Ft Knox, Louisville Ky. and Camp Dix, Trenton NJ. he was shipped to Ireland for advanced instruction. He has seen action in North Africa and Italy. He manned a gun on a scout car during the African campaign, he wrote his parents, and had been in Italy since November. Before he entered service, Schabell attended Miller's Business College, Cincinnati. He was employed by the American Railway Express Co.
Sgt. Schabell is engaged to Miss Mildred Schilling, 272 Beech street, Southgate. His brother, PFC Jack Schabell, 19, is serving in Alaska.

An Iron Cross was received yesterday from Private First Class Bruce Schabell by his fiancé, Miss Mildred Schilling, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Schilling, 272 Beech Road, Southgate. On September 26, Miss Schilling received a letter from Private Schabell, who was taking a rest cure after having engaged for six months in active fighting in the Tunsian campaign.
When fighting under Lieutenant General George Patton he was the driver of a scout car destroyed by a mine. Two occupants of the car were injured seriously. Four others escaped. Miss Schilling also received from her fiancé a ring made from the windshield of a German airplane and a purse of goatskin made by African natives. Private Schabell received basic training with the Armored Command at Ft Knox. He went abroad in May. A graduate of the St Joseph School, he also attended Cold Spring High School.
