NEWPORT
The annual meeting of the St Bonifacius Orphan Society was held
at the Corpus Christi Church school house yesterday. President Ellman submitted
his report, which showed that during the year twenty-eight new members had been
received, four died and six retired leaving the membership 258. Mr. C
Munninghoff, the new President then took his seat and called the new officers to
order.
The financial secretary showed that the indebtedness of the society in January 1882, was $20,850. The society, during the year paid off $700 of this, leaving a balance of $19,900.
The number of children cared for is 57, of which 24 are German, 30 English speaking and 3 colored. During the year there were ten received and six discharged. The Treasurer's report showed receipts during the year to the amount of $2965.62. The sisters reported a number of presents received during the year, and the children sent a nice and neat letter to the Trustees of the society.
