Stephens Family Bible
These records were copied from the which belonged to the grandparents of Mrs. Bennie Lewis Stephens Clore who lives near Burlington, Ky. and it is now (1973) in the possession. She is the daughter of Hetha A and Lewis Lunsford Stephens. He was a Confederate Soldier in Morgan's command, Second Kentucky Calvary, Co I, later Co A, and at one time a body guard of President Davis. He was surrendered by Capt Biggerstaff in Washington Ga on May 7, 1865; and took his oath of allegiance to the United States government in Nashville, Tennessee on May 21, 1865.
According to Mrs. Clore, her mother told her that the Union forces burned her parents' (Hiram and Harriett Brady Stephens) home in Cass Co Mo. The family fled to the woods nearby, saving only this family Bible. After the Civil War was over, her parents were married and later moved back to his native Boone Co.
These records were complied by Mrs. Gladys Anderson of Ft Mitchell on July 10, 1973. She is also a direct descendant of Hetha A and Lewis Lunsford Stephens. Published in "Kentucky Bible Records Volume VI" in 1981.
