Benjamin Adkins
Star in the West, Saturday, 11 August 1855, page 3
Tuesday, August 7, 1855-The Affray at Jamestown on Friday evening, in which Benjamin Adkins was killed, seems to be involved in more uncertainy than appeared by the current reports on Saturday. There were four persons more or less implicated, Adkins, Worlan and two others. Some altercation occurred between Adkins and Worlan, but hey agreed to make friends over another drink of liquor.
Whilst at the bar, Adkins threw a tumbler at Worlan, striking him on the temple, wounding him considerably. A scuffle ensued, in which Adkins was stabbed. The wound seems to have been made by a knife belonging to another one of the party. Adkins was beaten severely, his face and body being much bruised.
The stab was fatal. Worlan was arrested on Saturday and lodged in the jail at Newport.
