J B Higbee and wife and Miss Buttin returned Friday from Daytona Fla. where they spent the winter. Mrs. A C Morrow left Wednesday for Cleveland to stay with her son the balance of the summer. Chas H Goodson and J W Cupp left Thursday morning for a trip to Colorado and New Mexico.

A H McQuirn is visiting with his brother Frank at Youngstown this week. Miss Ida Wolf entertained the senior class of the High School Saturday evening. Fred Matz left Monday morning for an extended trip through the West and South. Mr. and Mrs. J H Brinker entertained friends Friday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. D C Burnison have returned from their Western trip. Mrs. John Wolfe gave a party Tuesday evening in honor of her sister, Miss Bankenkrager of Evansville Ind. J D Cook left Tuesday for a visit in Pittsburg Penn.

There will be an exciting boat race here this morning, when four sailboats will race for a purse of $50. The Mabel won the final race with the Thistle and will endeavor to carry off the prixe today. The Rambler, of Columbus Ohio, and the Bessie Marle of Dayton, will enter the contest. The course will be from Grote's Ferry Landing to the Cincinnati Gas Works, to the Louisville and Nashville Railroad Bridge and back to Grotes.

Thursday evening Mrs. William Brotest, nee Helen Cook, was very pleasantly surprised by a number of her friends at the residence of her sister, Mrs. Harry T Scoville, on Van Voast avenue.

M R Moran and John Bricking were yesterday appointed county patrolmen to protect property at St Anthony Church picnic tomorrow at Silver Grove. The Bellevue Browns will play the Cincinnati Gyms on the Browns grounds this afternoon.

Rev C L Kuhlman and bride, nee Miss Sherman, are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mattix. They will leave shortley for Grandview Ind. where Mr. Kuhlman has accepted a pastorate.

Councilman Albert Clark is jollifying over the arrival of a new daughter. Mrs. Hoffman of Poplar street, left for St Louis last night.

The driver of Fleischmann's yeast wagon was whipping his horse on O'Fallon avenue yesterday and the animal, taking fright ran into a passing electric car on Fairfield avenue. The wagon to which the horse was attached was badly damaged.

Mr. J F Foreman, well known in the East End, especially by the Masonic and Essenic Knights orders, was on Thursday secretly married to Miss Idel Brooks, an accomplished young lady of Bellevue. The young couple thought it easier to beg forgiveness than gain the consent of their parents.

Mr. T F Beyland and daughter, Miss Agness are summering in the Tennessee mountains. Mr. Edward Dorsey has returned from a social visit to friends at Wheeling W Va. Mrs. Hoffman of Poplar street is visiting friends at Wheeling W Va.

The law fete held on the lawn of Charles Ridgon for the benefit of Trinity Lutheran Church was a grand success. Miss Ora Bezold has returned to her home at Springfield Ohio, after a very pleasant visit to Miss Maggie Knapp of Taylor avenue. Charles Emig left for Greenfield Ohio. Harry Walford is spending his vacation at his old home in Butler County, Ohio.

Mrs. Della Pearson and Daughter, Miss Ethelyn have returned from a pleasant trip through Michigan. Misses Mayme and Esther Kearns are visiting friends at Glendale Ohio.

At a recent meeting of the Kentucky Educational Association at Louisville Superintendent J M N Downes was elected Secretary of the Association. He was also continued as Chairman of the Committee on Child Study. Both of these are important positions and this city is to be congratulated upon having such a progressive and thorough educator at the head of her schools.

The many friends of Mrs. Otto Schmidt, of Prospect street, will be pleased to learn that she is convalescing from her recent illness. A cinematograph reproduction of the "Passion Play" will take place tonight at St Anthony Church. The views will be explained as they are reproduced by a lecturer. There will also be music by Kilrain, the famous singer.

Mr. and Mrs. W H Drube have returned from an extended trip to New Orleans. Miss Lutie Tenlay, a Bellevue girl, has elicited much commendation for her excellent work with the company supporting David Warfield, which played at the Grand last week.

A reception was tendered Mr. Matthew Toensmeyer Tuesday evening in honor of his birthday. Among the guests were Misses Louise Alberthardt, Emilia Papenbrock, Louise Momberg, Marguerite Steller, Louise Kosemeyer, Matilda Buchert, Messrs. William Ehrhardt, Wesley Bachmeyer, Val Wenderoth, Fred Christ, Sam Trotter, George Harbach and others.

Miss Dora Stetter entertained the CLSC Monday night at her home on Berry avenue. Among those who took part in the program were Misses Grace Allnut, Amy Cunningham, Alma Bose and Mr. J A Rabbe.

St Johns German P E Church will hold English services the last Sunday in each month hereafter for the accommodation of the younger members. The first English service will be held held next Sunday.

Ben Higdon has returned from Jackson Ky. where he has been serving as Sergeant Major of the militia. Louis Schultz, of this city has gone to New York to join the Sam T Jack Theatrical Company.

Maurice Harvey, of New York, formerly of this city, is renewing old acquaintances here, en route to Kansas to superintend the surveying of a railroad. This is his first visit here in 10 years.

The whereabouts of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Himmler, the young couple who eloped to Covington, Wednesday and were married, have not been learned but it is supposed they are hiding somewhere in Cincinnati. Henry Coriell, the girl's father was in Cincinnati the greater part of yesterday looking for his daughter. No information concerning the youthful couple could be obtained. Mrs. Coriell, the mother, is nearly prostrate from worry and is anxiously awaiting the return of her daugther.

The Walnut Street Fishing Club met last night and passed resolutions on the death of Charles K Poore, whose tragic fate in a blizzard in Idaho was reported in yesterdays Enquirer.

A few days ago some one cut the tail off a cat belonging to F W Denyer and yesterday the dastard cut off a leg and foot of the feline. The cat was put of of its misery by the use of chloroform. Oliver Schafstall was fined $10 and costs by Judge Burk last night for reckless driving.

The Poor Committee reported that C Clark, a shoemaker, had been removed to Speers Hosptial.

Albert Taylor of Front street, is suffering with blood poisoning of the hand as a result of scratching his hand on a piece of galvanized iron.

George A Keefer, member of Council from the Third Ward, was fined $2 and cost by Judge Burk last night for defacing the new fire wagon. Mayor J W Ellis, whose name was erased from the wagon, swore to the warrant charging Keefer with disorderly conduct. The trial was held behind closed doors. Keefer pleased guilty. The City Council will consider the matter of expelling Keefer from the board at its meeting tomorrow night.

Mr. Will Rose and Miss Florence Mueller were married yesterday morning a St Anthony Church, Rev Father Kehoe officiating.

Bids were received last night at the meeting of the City Council for the construction of a sewer system in the city and it is calculated that at least one of the bids will come within the legal limit of $1 per front foot fixed by the last Legislature.

Bids were submitted by John McLane, the Douglas Plumbing and Heating Company and C J Helm Jr. Each bid was accompanied by a $2000 guarantee bond. The bids were referred to the improvement Committee, City Engineer and City Attorney for computation. to report at an adjourned meeting of the board tomorrow night.

City Attorney Caldwell submitted an ordinance providing for the original construction of Bonnie Leslie avenue, but a motion to pass it was referred back to the Improvement Committee. Attorney Horace Root represented the majority of the property owners on the street, who objected to the improvement. Councilman Huster created a sensation by asking as to the charge of bribery emanating, it is alleged, from women of Bonnie Leslie, to the effect that the board has been bribed to make the improvement. The other members did not think it was worth taking note of.

State Auditor Hager reported the valuation of the C and O Railroad within the city limits at $4150. This is $30,000 less than the assessment last year. It was referred to the Committee on Delinquent Taxes and City Attorney.

A petition from 17 property owners in the southern part of the city asking the Water Company to increase the pressure in that territory was referred to the Fuel, Light and Water Committee.

Oscar Hanna Jr. of Ward avenue will leave for the Isthmus of Panama tomorrow to accept a position as a carpenter.

Edward Noeltner, of Fairfield avenue, had a large piece of flesh torn out of his right arm yesterday while working in a flour mill in Cincinnati. His arm was caught in the belting and it was a miracle that he was not hurled to death. Dr. Gould rendered surgical aid.

Edward, the eleven year old son of James E Neville, of 219 Ward avenue, reported to the police yesterday morning the loss of a gold watch and chain presented to him by his parents the previous day. The watch was stolen or lost while he was playing on the street.

A warrant was issued yesterday for Edward Mauget, of Taylor and Center streets, charging him with shooting a dog belonging to T D Davis, a neighbor. The shooting was done in the presence of Mrs. Davis, who was nearly thrown into hysteria. Mauget will be given a hearing in Police Court Monday.

City Attorney A M Caldwell has gone to Williamstown Ky. to complete the records for an appeal in the Meek's murder case. He will be gone until Tuesday.
