The original owners of the above building were Henry Fahrenholtz (22 May 1866-27 Apr 1939) and his wife Elizabeth (1869-1948). It was originally called Fahrenholtz Picnic Grounds. It was passed to their son, Harry Fahrenholtz (21 Oct 1891-Mar 1953) and he and his wife Marie (21 Sep 1899-27 Sep 1981) ran it. After Harry died, Marie continued to operate the Fahrenholtz Tavern until she died. It then sat empty for a year; then became Jack's or Better for a year; then became Barrel Head Saloon for 5 years. It was torn down to make way for the expansion of the US 27 road.
It was near the Kroger home and across the street from the St Joseph Orphanage which was also torn down.
