ATTEMPT OF PRISONERS IN THE BARRACKS TO ESCAPE
We heard a rumor last night that fifteen prisoner, who have been confined in the Newport Barracks for some time past on the charge of treason, attempted to effect their escape yesterday, but the plot being discovered in time, was prevented from being carried into execution. The prisoners are a portion of those captured on the Big Sandy some time ago. We heard that they were heavily ironed and started for Camp Chase, in charge of a strong guard.
