NEWPORT NEWS

Lieut. Adam Weaver, of Co F 53rd Ken. Vol. arrived in this city yesterday. His regiment was in Gen Burbridge's expedition to Saltville Va. Lieut. W reports that First Lieut. A T Morin, of Newport, was drowned while attempting to cross Clinch River. He also reports the following members of Co F, who are all from Newport, as missing and supposed to be prisoners: Lt. J Hazard Davis, privates James McCloud, James M Boyd, John Whittington, Barton S Shivei, Willoughby T Young (California) Wm Cook, Fred Miller, Jacob Hessler, Geo Keene, Chas Cullop, Daniel O'Marra, Daniel Spangler, James C Wright, and Wm O Tarvin. There are several other members of this company missing, but whose names our informant does not remember.

 AT SOLDIERS HOME

Alfred T Morin, of Newport, made application through Col. Berry. Captain A T Morin, a respected Newport citizen and veteran of the Civil War, will go to the Soldiers Home at Dayton O. Congressman Berry wrote to the authorities at that place, requesting the admittance of Mr. Morin. He was a prisoner in Libby Prison.

Alfred T Morin received a pension on 11 Aug 1885. He was admitted to the Soldiers Home in Dayton on 17 Aug 1899 and died 4 Feb 1900 there. He was buried in the Dayton National Cemetery.
