Corp. Arley C Jones Jr. 20 year old Marine, son of the Rev and Mrs. Arley C Jones, Alexandria Pike, Alexandria, arrived home Monday to spend a furlough with his parents and friends after recuperating since April 22, in the US Naval Hospital, Oakland Calf. from wounds received on Guadalcanal. Corp. Jones was wounded when a hand grenade exploded near him inflicting severe burns and cuts on both legs.
Corp. Jones enlisted in the Marine Corp in January 1942 and was sent overseas in March 1942. He was sent to Guadalcanal with a raider command. While on Guadalcanal he took part in four major battles before receiving wounds which caused him to return to the United States. Corp. Jones received his basic training at San Diego, Calf.
