Kentucky Post, Friday, 2 January 1903, page 5
Mrs. Anna Clendenning, who resided in a shanty boat at the foot
of Southgate street, Newport, narrowly escaped drowning Thursday. She was
awakened by the noise of running water and was horrified to find that her little
home was sinking.
Grabbing her only child, she was compelled to jump into the river and wade ashore in order to save her life.
