Pfc. Alvin H Welsch, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Al Welsch, 409
Lindsey street, Newport, was wounded in action in southern France, according to
word received here. In his last letter, Pfc. Welsch said he was wounded. With
the infantry since March 1913, he was sent overseas in September 1943. He
attended Newport High School.
He was reported by the War Department as missing in action in January 1944, but was fighting with the infantry at the Anzio beachhead. Later the Americans pushed the Germans back and Pfc. Welsch returned to his company.
