Alma Schucht

Kentucky Post, Thursday, 19 February 1903, page 5

A peculiar case relative to Humane Officer Graft in Newport, has turned up and the whereabouts of a little girl is anxiously looked for by her sister. On Feb 10 City Clerk Frank Covalt received a letter from Miss Flora Schucht, of Arilla Ind. asking him to look up her sister Alma. She said in her letter Alma was taken by Humane Officer Graft, who, she heard was appointed guardian over her sister.

The Clerk showed the letter to Officer Graft but he could not tell anything about it and asked to get the dates. Another letter was received on the 17th stating Alma was taken December 1899. The Clerk looked up the records but could not locate anything about the missing girl, over whom the Humane Officer is supposed to be guardian.

The Clerk was much chagrinned to learn that Graft had no record of the girl and an investigation will be made at once to locate Alma Schucht. It is thought the child was taken to an orphans home but her alleged guardian has forgotten it, if he was appointed. Humane Officer Graff has reached a good age and has been made guardian over a number of person.

County Judge Hissem could not find a record of Graff being named the guardian of the Schuchter girl and it is believed there is a mistake somewhere. The officials are of the opinion the case may have been in Kenton County.
