Alma Durer
Kentucky Post, Monday, 31 August 1896, page 5
Alma, the 9 year old daughter of Fred Durer, of 640 Monmouth Street, Newport, had a narrow escape from drowning while playing in the yard of her home Monday morning. She and her little cousin, Albert Giebel, were playing around the fountain that adorns the center of the yard and were floating miniature boats in the pool.
One of these capsized and in an effort to right it, the little girl lost her balance and fell into the water. The depth of water was sufficient to entirely cover her and had it not been for the presence of mind of her companion, she would have drowned. He grabbed her when she came to the surface nd succeeded in getting her out. She was unconscious but came around all right.
