Alice Smalley, died in Newport Ky. Apr 12, after a lingering illness. Miss Alice Smalley, only child of Colonel A D and Mrs. Agnes Smalley. In the death of this remarkable young lady the community of which she was so bright an ornament has sustained an irreparable loss. With the ordinary attributes of personal loveliness, she combined intellectual endowments, natural and acquired of rare order, and a cheerfulness, courage and trust in God which excited the admiration and amazement of all whose sad privilege was to minister at her bedside.

She had as much to look forward to in this life as any of her age. Yet without a sigh, with the most cheerful acquiescence, she saw its sun go down in the morning. The King of Terrors could not appall her, she fairly smiled him out of power If accidental allusion was made to the sadness of the occasion her ready answer was, "My Heavenly Father will be sure to do exactly right."

A funeral sermon suggested by the death of Miss Smalley, will be preached by Dr. Huston, in Taylor Street Church, Newport this Sunday morning at 11 am. Friends of the family are invited to attend.
