Surrounded by members of their family, which consists of children, grand and great grandchildren, Alexander Schaefer and wife, West Fourth st. Newport, celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage Sunday.

Members of the famous Guthrie Grays, members of the GAR post and a large number of friends assisted in the celebration. Schaefer served in the Sixth Volunteer Infantry in the Civil War and was wounded twice. He was captured and spent considerable time in Libby prison. He is 74 years "young" and his wife admits having seen 70 summers.

SCHAEFER, Alexander, beloved husband of Katherine Schaefer (nee Kremer) died Tuesday March 17 at residence, 113 W Fourth st. Newport, aged 80 years. Funeral Friday March 20 from John Radel & Co funeral parlors, Ninth and Patterson with services at 2 pm. Interment in Evergreen Cemetery.
