Alexandria Brewery

The Alexandria Brewery was located in a red brick building that still stands at 205 Washington Street.  The building, which is located between Grove and Jefferson streets, is an apartment building.

The brewery was started by Isaac Synder, a 30 year old German who moved to Alexandria in 1860.  Synder later sold the brewery to August Meister, who used the beer to supply the Alexandria Hotel.  Meister had opened the hotel on Fayette Street across from the courthouse in 1867.

The brewery was producing 1000 barrels of beer when it finally closed in 1885.
