Adenstone Rogers
Submitted by Eleanor R Edmondson
Adenstone Rogers is assumed to have been born about 1755 in Goochland Co., VA. It seems likely that his father was Aduston Rogers, Jr. who was the son of Adduston Rogers and Catherine Doswell. Aduston, Sr. had originally come from York Co., VA to settle in the frontier Goochland Co.
Because of the difficulty in hearing and understanding the name Adenstone/Aduston it is often misunderstood-as being ANDERSON. The Adenstones throughout time used nicknames, but they faired no better. An example of the corrupted name is shown in the Campbell Co., KY tax lists-
1796-DENNIS Rogers
1797-ADINSON Rogers
1798-EMERSON Rogers
Adenstone was listed on the 1797 list of Tavern owners. Later in Cape Girardeau, MO he applied for a Tavern owners license. On 14 June 1797 his daughter, Rhonda, married Jacob Foster, Jr. I found it interesting that he apparently just walked away from the land he had bought in Campbell Co. The following was taken from the Mason Co. KY records as the county line had changed.
...being the lot formerly held by ADVENSON Rogers and sold by the sheriff for taxes.... This was dated 25 March 1801. It is a mystery as to why he didn't sale the land to help pay for the cost of moving to M0.
Around 1799 Adenstone Rogers and his family of 8 remaining children and his wife joined Jacob Foster, Sr. and JR along with William Williams to travel by boat down to Cape Girardeau, M0. Altogether I believe Adenstone only lived about four years in Campbell Co.
I am basically a Rogers researcher and would welcome any descendants. At present I am profiling the Rogers family from Campbell County Kentucky into several counties of AR.
