Lt. Adam Lieberth

Kentucky Post, Tuesday, 29 August 1899, page 5

Lieutenant Adam Liebert of the Newport police, made a good catch Tuesday morning with the aid of a thinking woman. At an early hour Tuesday a man giving his names as Sam Mitchell, colored, called at Mrs. Ware's house, 512 West Seventh Street and tried to sell a ring which he represented as solid gold. He asked $1.50 for it.

Mrs. Ware decided to purchase the article and went to get change. Thinking something was wrong, instead of getting change, she sent to Eisenschmidt's Jewelry Store and had the ring tested. She was informed it was not genuine and then she went to Police Headquarters. After telling Lt. Liebert and he made the capture after the woman returned the ring to the stranger. He said he was from Pittsburg and had sold a dozen of the rings before he struck Newport.
