Seaman First Class Abe Steffen, a gunner on a merchant ship, returned home recently from six months at sea for a brief visit with his wife, Rosemary Steffen and chidren, Ruthann, E J and Cathie, all of Marshall Lane, Cold Spring. Seaman Steffen took part in the invasion of France, crossing the Strait of Dover 14 times under enemy fire.

He was greeted upon his arrival home by his five moth old daughter, Cathie, whom he had never seen. Before entering the service, Seaman Steffen was an employee of the Red Top Brewing Co Cincinnati. At the present time the merchant mariners whereabouts are not known, since he reported for sea duty at Baltimore Md. a short time ago. Three brothers are also in the service; SF 1/c Adam Steffen, on active duty in the Pacific; PFO Paul Steffen, with an anti-aircraft unit in France and PFC Stephen Steffen with a medical detachment at Camp Barkley, Tex.
