Abolition Party of Campbell County

NEWPORT NEWS
We have heard it intimated that a political aspirant, who was
ambitious to represent the Abolition Party of Campbell County in the State
Legislature, was so badly scared on the night the demonstration was made on the
office of the Free South, that he swam the Licking River, thereby making his
escape from those who were in hot pursuit of him.
His sudden immersion into the waters of the Licking made him so hoarse that he was unable to address the crowd in behalf of Mr. Bailey on the following day.
