BATCH OF ENLISTMENTS
Yesterday was another red letter day at Ft Thomas in regard to
the arrival of recruits for the Forty-eighth Colored Regiment of volunteers.
Sixty-eight reported, making a total of 144 enlisted so far. They came
from Lexington, Knoxville and Washington. Among the number were three
officers of the Ninth Cavalry, stationed at Ft Hutt, Ariz. Captain W H Brown,
formerly Seargeant Major of the above regiment; First Lieutenant William H
Allen, ex Sergeant of the Ninth Cavalry and First Lieutenant John H Brown.
The local recruiting station yesterday received four negroes for the Forty-eighth Volunteer Infantry. The men arrived from Providence R. I.
