NEWPORT

CONSIDERABLE excitement exists at Pond Creek and Alexandria on account of the murder of a young man named Ed Jones, on tuesday eveing last.  From what we could learn about the affair, it would appear that there existed a bad feeling between the two young men named Ed Jones and George Keys for some time past.

Jones accused Keys of using some bad language, at the same time giving him a blow of his fist, when Keys picked up a rock and threw it at Jones, hitting him in the side of the head, from the effects of which he died in two hours.  Jailer Greenwood and Marshal Vitt arrested R Clark, Samuel Freeman (colored) and George Keys.

A coroner's inquest will be held this morning, after which an examining trial will be held.
