NEWPORT


NEWTON BROOKS, a negro who has been loitering about the depot of the C and O Railroad at the head of Monmouth street, was arrested yesterday by Officer Dennis Flynn, charge with stealing a valise from the waiting room of that place.

Brooks had the valise but claims that he found it up in Jones' Woods. The valise belonged to Alex Hamilton of 173 Central avenue. When it was opened a coat, vest and other contents were found to be missing to the value of $25.

Brooks for many years coachman for the late Colonel Thos Jones.
