Julia Jackson and Mose Lewis
Cincinnati Enquirer, 29 May 1895, page 7
NEWPORT
Mose Lewis and Julia Jackson, two people prominent in colored
circles, are under arrest. Officer Dennis Flynn is the policeman guilty of
placing them under this indignity. Mose and Julia engaged in an altercation in
the East End yesterday afternoon and Julia used a knife with malicious intent.
She stabbed her antagonist of the sterner sex in the right hand, driving the blade into the palm. Lewis's wound was dressed by Jail Physician Clark and both parties were locked up. Elliot Buchanan, another gentleman of color, was held as a witness. Judge Dumont will hear the explanations this morning.
