John Ford, colored "Big Four" was given a severe sentence by Judge Moore in Police Court Wednesday morning. Ford was one of the participants in a colored row on Saratoga st. Newport Sunday.

Ford struck Green Sayers with the top of a hydrant, causing a severe wound and Sayers, in turn, fired three shots, two of them taking effect in Ford , but were not serious. Judge Moore, in imposing the sentence said: "It is my intention to break up that crowd on Saratoga st. if in my power. It appears that Ford entered the premises of Green Sayers and struck him on the head and that Sayers was justified in shooting at Ford."
