NEWPORT

YESTERDAY AFTERNOON Constable Frank Berte arrested a colored man named John Allen, at the instance of Miss or Mrs. Gripp. She says that Monday afternoon she was walking down Madison street and accidentally dropped some money, about $1.50. Allen seeing it, thought it was a larger amount, followed her from this city to Cincinnati and when on the upper part of Vine street, he demanded it of her; she says she was so frightened that she handed it to him without making any fuss.

But after coming back to this side of the river she informed the above named officer of the occurrence and he promptly arrested the offender, but released him on $300 bail to appear before Esquires Francis and Duvenick this morning.
