NEGRO POLITICIAN

James Crane, colored, of James alley, was the first person to be arrested election day in Newport. He was a worker at the polls in Precinct A, of the Second Ward.

Early this morning Crane took an overdose of Second War fire water and imagined he was the political boss of Precinct A. He got so abusive in his talk that the election officers appealed to the police, who placed Crane under arrest. Patrolmen Meyer and Morton, who made the arrest, had a hard time taking Crane to police headquarters. He was locked up charged with disorderly conduct.
