POLITICIANS IN CUTTING SCRAPE
Political enthusiasm was rampant at the Jackson Colored
Independent Club, Newport, Saturday evening at the clubrooms on Monmouth st.
which ended in a display by Fred Mills. Flourishing a razor and a revolver, he
terrorized a crowd of colored folks and caused a stampede that broke up the
meeting.
Mills' ire was aroused by a remark made by Frank Ware and the two clashed. During the fight the latter was slashed in the left side, across the shoulder and in the back of the head. Dr. Herman sewed up his wounds and the police attended to Mills. This morning in the Police Court Mills secured a continuance until tomorrow and his bond was fixed at $200.
