PACKS TRIAL

It will take another day to finish the trial of James Crane, charged with the murder of John Jackson. This is the third day of the trial and there are a score or more of witnesses to be heard for the defense. The State rested its case late yesterday and witnesses for the defense were place on the stand at the opening of today's session of court.

About one half of the colored population of Newport is attending the trial. The attorneys for Crane are holding to the self defense theory and are trying to establish for the defendant a former good reputation.
