A 2007 Newport High School graduate died Monday during basic training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot at Parris Island SC. Pvt. Adrien Edmund DeAngelo Augustin, 20, of Covington was remembered Friday in Northern Kentucky as an avid athlete and outgoing person. Augustin started at Holmes High School but transferred to Newport his junior year, Newport High School Principal Scott Draud said. He started on the football team as a lineman and came off the bench for the basketball team.
Augustin collapsed Monday after a physical fitness test, according to the Marines. The Associated Press reported Friday 2nd Lt. Sharon Hyland said an autopsy had been performed to determine the cause of his death, but the result were not back yet.
Survivors include his mother, Paula Beth Smith Augustin of Covington; Jean Vednor Augustin of Ruskin Fla. sisters, Channel Augustin of Crescent Springs, Vedna and Marie Ausgustin both of Ruskin; brother Jean Augustin of Ruskin; and girlfriend Sarh Christine Szabo of France.
Visitation will be 4-8 pm Tuesday Aug 25. Funeral will be noon Wednesday, Aug 26 at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North Chapel, Williamstown Ky.
