African American Doctors
Dr. Percival Lawrence Bacchus was born in 5 Feb 1902 in Georgetown, British Guiana, England. He immigrated in 1921 then graduated from Meharry Medical College in 1922 in Nashville Tennessee. He practiced in Nashville before coming to Newport. He filed his naturalization papers in Covington in Sep 1931 stating he was living in Campbell County for the past six months. He married his first wife, Edith L Richard, 16 Sep 1926 in Manhattan. He married Reventa ? 27 Nov 1935 in Newport and practiced in Newport at 341 Central Avenue. By 1953 he was married to Vesta Lee Talley (1914-1983). He died in 3 June 1962 in Cincinnati and was buried in the Mary E Smith Cemetery in Elsmere Ky.
Dr. W H Guinn practiced in Newport at Columbia Street between Fourth and Southgate.
Dr. Charles Edward Horner was born 1 Aug 1882 in Cincinnati, the son of Charles D Horner and Rebecca Minnes. He graduated from the Eclectic Medical College in Cincinnati in 1924 and practiced in Newport, treating patients of both races. His father was a teacher at the Southgate School in Newport, the only African American school in Campbell County.
