The colored citizens of the three cities turned out in large
numbers yesterday at the celebration of the anniversary of the Emancipation
Proclamation. The affair was a pleasant one throughout, and the following
program was carried out:
Prayer by Rev Blackburn of Covington followed by the Emancipation song by Mr. Smeed. Clara Bell read the Emancipation Proclamation.
Addresses were made by Peter H Clark of Cincinnati; Mr. M M McLevid of Jackson Miss; Professor McLevid of Covington and his Honor Mayor Harton. No disturbance of any kind marred the pleasures of the day.
