Charles Mason, colored who is charge with killing William Walker last Sunday afternoon at Fifth and Monmouth sts. Newport, will be given a preliminary hearing tonight in the Campbell co. Court. The hearing was set for this morning, but owing to County Attorney Caldwell being engaged in the Mauget murder trial, the continuance was ordered by Judge Hawkins.
Mason states that he killed Walker in self defense. He is being held without bail.

Charles Mason, a negro, charged with the killing of William Walker, also a negro in January last, following a fight at Fifth and Monmouth sts. Newport, was acquited by a jury yesterday in the Campbell Circuit Court. Attorney Bitme McLaughlin defended Mason and cleared the prisoner on the ground of self-defense.
