ALEXANDRIA
 

The County Poor house, near Alexandria, has eight inmates, one of whom has been there for over thirty years, and was formerly a slave of Judge Goodwin, of Newport. Three of the others are orphan children. The number of inmates last year was sixteen.

NOTE: Charles Goodwin was listed in the 1870 census in Alexandria, as 50 years old, born in Kentucky and working on a county farm.
