ALEXANDRIA
The County Poor house, near Alexandria, has eight inmates, one of
whom has been there for over thirty years and was formerly a slave of Judge
Goodwin (sic) of Newport.

In the 1830 census, Coleman Gooden is listed with 5 slaves in Newport.
In the 1850 census Charles Gooden, age 28, is listed in the poor house in Alexandria with Samuel and Rebecca Thompson as directors.
In the 1860 census Charles, age 50, in the poor house in Alexandria with Rebecca Thompson as housekeeper for the poor house.
In the 1880 census, Charles, age 50? listed in the Alexandria poor house with James Thatcher as keeper of the poor house.
