Belle

Kentucky Post, Thursday, 13 July 1899, page 5

An old colored mammy called Belle, who works for John Mulligan of O'Fallon Avenue, Bellevue, Ky. tried to find a leak in a gas pipe at the Mulligan residence Thursday morning with a lighted match. An explosion followed, which wrecked part of the house and so severely injured Belle that her death is only the matter of a few hours.

One arm was nearly severed from her body and Dr. I T Gould said she couldn't live.
