Colored fans of Newport and Covington will probably turn out in large numbers at the Wiedemann Ball Park on the Fourth of July, when the strong Florsheim Club will meet the strong Tiger team, composed of all colored players.
The event is being widely talked of as the Tigers are the fastest colored team in this part of the country. A big parade will precede the game, starting in Covington and ending at the park. The Florsheim team is a strong one and plays most of its games on the road. They have not been seen in Newport and the fans will turn out to see them.
On Sunday, at the same park the Florsheim team plays the strong West Covington team and this will be a battle royal, as both teams are playing fine ball.

WHITES AND NEGROES CLASH IN NEWPORT
Prompt action on the part of Newport police prevented a race riot
at the ball park, Tenth and Lowell streets, Newport, yesterday afternoon, when
partisans of a white team, the Covingtons and a negro team, Page's Tigers,
clashed at the end of a fourteen inning game. The score at the time stood
5 to 4, in favor of the negroes.
White and negro spectators engaged in a fight over the game, and eventually several players became involved. The players carried bats when they mingled with the disputants. Detective James Fuller succeeded in restoring peace for a time, but when the quarrel was renewed he sent in an emergency call. Lieutenant George Kirby responded with Detective Murphy and Officers Hamilton, Scheben, Flannelly, Verax, Mertes and Eviston.
The negroes, however, hurriedly left the ball ground and the police dispersed the spectators.

The Question Marks, Newport colored softball team, defeated the Southgate Community League All Stars 5 to 0, in an exhibition game Wednesday night on the St Therese Church grounds. A crowd of 900 watched the game, the main feature of which was the fine sportsmanship displayed by the players of both teams.
The Question Marks scored four runs in the
first inning but from that time on the game was a right defensive duel. Sharp,
Nutter and Lewis divided the pitching for the winners. Newhouse, Wilson and
Thoeny pitched for the losers. Each team collected six hits.
