The funeral of Melvin Ray, who was killed at the battle of Santiago [sic], will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o’­clock at Indianapolis. Deceased was a son of David Ray. His mother was Miss Sarah Wheat, formerly of this county. He had many relatives here. The funeral will take place at Kriger & Adams cha­pel, Ohio and Illinois streets.

His body was received in New York 30 Mar 1899. He was buried in Crown Hill National Cemetery, Indianapolis, Indiana.
