Word reached here on Monday morning that Mrs. Will McClellan had died at her home in East St. Louis on Sunday night at 6:30 o’clock. Deceased was a daughter-in-law of Jacob F. McClellan and had many friends in this city.

Notes: The 1850 US Federal Census for Franklin, Johnson County, Indiana records thirty-year-old, Kentucky-born Jacob F. McClellan, his twenty-one-year-old, Kentucky-born wife Nancy S (Johnson) McClellan and their children, four-year-old, Kentucky-born William J McClellan, and one-year-old, Indiana-born Allie A McClellan.
The 1880 US Federal Census for Clement, Clinton County, Illinois records thirty-two-year-old, Indiana-born [sic] railroad clerk Wm J. McClellan, his 31-year-old, Illinois-born wife Mary McClellan, and their Illinois-born children, six-year-old Jessie, three-year-old Bessie and six-month-old Lela N. McClellan, and Mary’s brother, forty-four-year-old, Illinois-born Harry Roper.
Illinois Marriages, 1811–2007, database, records that when Bessie McClellan married Ben A. Reed on 24 Apr 1901 in East St Louis, St Clair County, Illinois, she stated that her parents were Wm. J. McClellan and Mary Roper (citing FHL microfilm 2169977).
