JAMES GALLAGHER
Pompano Beach, Fla.
      James Edward Gallagher, 76, of Pompano Beach, Fla., formerly of Columbus,
died at 11:50 p.m. Sunday at his home.
      He was a real estate appraiser, M.A.I.  He owned and operated Midwest
Appraisal Co. in Columbus for several years and moved to Florida in 1978.
He was a member of Appraisement Institute and St. Bartholomew Catholic
Church.
      Gallagher served with the U.S. Navy during World War II.  He was a member
of American Legion Post No. 24, where he was past commander and served as
state commander in 1976.
      He was a graduate of Clark Township High School and Franklin College and
did graduate work at Butler University and Franklin College.  He was a
high school teacher and basketball coach from 1936 to 1941.
      Funeral service will be conducted by Myers Funeral Service at 10 a.m.
Friday at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, with the Rev. Patrick Harpenau
officiating.  Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Reed and Jewell
Chapel, where a prayer servcie will begin at 7:30 p.m.  Graveside legion
service and burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
      Memorials may be given to Leukemia Society or Columbus American Legion.
      He was born Jan. 31, 1912, in Johnson County, and was the son of Frank and
Anna Kelly Gallagher.  He married Helen Lois Kennedy on Aug. 6, 1938, in
Franklin.  She died July 24, 1984.
      Surviving are daughters, Sandra Bova of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Judy
Perillard of Coral Springs, Fla.; sisters, Alice Runnebohn of Shelbyville,
Bernice Bullett of Sebastian, Fla.; Marguerite Magill of Franklin; a
brother, Victor Gallagher of Sarasota, Fla.; and five grandchildren.
