Wallace L. Cherry

Wallace L. Cherry, 76, died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2001, at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Martinsville.

He was born Feb. 11, 1925, in Moss, Tenn. His parents were Andrew S. and Cora L. (Foster) Cherry. He married Geraldine (Bruce) Cherry. She survives. Other survivors include three sons, Charles W. Cherry of Indianapolis, Anthony S. Cherry of Charlestown and Michael D. Cherry of Martinsville; one brother, Raymond Cherry of Texas; two sisters, June Brooks and Ila Woods, both of Portland, Tenn.; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph, Cecil and Tank Cherry; a sister, Kathryn Majors; and one grandson.

He was employed for 30 years as a warehouse shipping superintendent by Fairmont Glass Works in Indianapolis, retiring in 1986.

He was a member of the U.S. Marines, having served in World War II and earning two Purple Hearts.

A service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Forest Lawn Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Home, State Road 135 Chapel. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
